Dr. Weekes is an award-winning writer, educator, and filmmaker. She won the Frank Collymore Literary Endowment Award (Barbados) in 2005 for her memoir Volcano, detailing her experience with the Montserrat volcanic crisis. Her work has appeared in over 20 anthologies and journals, spanning poetry, fiction, essays, and academic writing.
Beyond literature, she has made an impact in film, winning Best Director in 2018 for Grief and directing compelling documentaries on gender-based violence, heritage, and disaster resilience. In 2024, she received Montserrat’s Order of Excellence for her contributions to Education, Culture, and the Arts.
